Hi, this is Nick Majors - Founder and Executive Director of the Race Drivers' Guild of Canada.
With so many long standing, successful and effective motorsport clubs in Canada - why you may ask, do we need a new one?
I have been an active participant and strong supporter of motorsports for many years and have benefitted from my memberships in several clubs including - BARC, BEMC, DAC, OMSC, MCO, TAC, BMWCC and VARAC. While each of these organizations (and several others) do wonderful work, the Race Drivers' Guild hopes to focus more specifically on the training, encouragement and nurturing of active and potential drivers, in ways that have not been previously seen.
Because of the significant contribution and importance of these other clubs to our sport - I will continue as a member and supporter of all five clubs in which I am currently active and new members of RDGC will be encouraged to maintain their existing memberships and ties to their original "mother clubs".
The Race Drivers' Guild of Canada plans to seek affiliation with CASC-OR and ASN Canada FIA.
This project is a "work in progress" with some way to go before announcing programs or inviting memberships.
I have been working on this for over a year and the recent buzz and flurry of interest has brought forward several people who are willing to work with me to expedite the launch.
This club is being structured in a unique way to provide valuable benefits, activities and opportunities for roadracers - while not competing with existing groups. There will be some obvious similarities to earlier groups - but comparisons to clubs like RDA, CRDA or HRC are probably not accurate.
No organization can be all things to all people . . . but I think we will find a unique place on the motorsports landscape.
(and by the way - Yes, for those who have asked, one of my personal goals is to have the club organize and run a sanctioned race school, with a different focus than found in existing ones.)
Our plans for 2010 are just to proceed with the non-profit "letters patent" & by-laws, etc., continue building a Board of Advisors, and to donate and sponsor a couple of recognition awards.
Meanwhile, feel free to have a look through the various sections of this website. New information and more details are being posted every week.
Keep in touch and stay tuned for much more news and activity in the new year.
Nick Majors (November 2010)
